Self storage facilities that are located in rural or suburban areas generally consist of multiple rows of one story buildings separated by narrow driving lanes. City dwellers can take advantage of multiple floor self storage facilities with elevators and freight lifts that help renters transport their belongings between floors.

Its important to remember that self storage contracts are as legally binding as any other leasing agreement. Renters are required to keep their lease payments current or lose their units contents to auction. Self storage facility owners may, under law, place a lien on your possessions for nonpayment of your lease and sell them at auction, so be sure to keep your payments current! You will be responsible for the balance if the auction proceeds do not equal the amount of the lien.
