RSS is an abbreviation of Really Simple Syndication. Really Simple Syndication is a family of web feed format. The reliance of the websites over the RSS news feed has increased in the recent years because it enhances the users traffic on the websites. Really Simple Syndication is primarily aimed to share the web content or the online headlines. Really Simple Syndication was introduced in 1997 by UserLand as a lightweight XML format. After this it was being used by Netscape for filling up the channels.
The three primary purposes of the RSS syndication include collection of information, distribution of the updates and increasing the traffic of users on the website. In addition, it is also considered very important for the additional content distribution services. For sharing the news through RSS, the XML grammar is used which is a set of HTML like tags.
RSS syndication is used for publishing the updated works like audio, video, blog entries and the news headlines. The format of RSS is kept standardized in the format of an RSS document. This document is also called as feed, web feed or a channel. Along with the full or the summarized text, this document also holds the metadata like date of publishing and the authorship. The standardized format of the document facilitates the automatic syndication of the content. The great benefit of Rss syndication goes to the readers because they gets continuous timely updates after getting the subscriptions.
RSS reader, feed reader or an aggregator is software which is used for reading RSS feeds. This software is linked with web based, mobile based or desktop based device. The purpose of keeping the standardized XML file format is that it allows the publisher to publish the information for once and then it can be used for many programs.
The user can get the subscription by using the feeds URL. The formats of the RSS syndication use XML for the creation of the data formats. These formats were introduced in 1999. However, the formats became popular during the year 2005 to 2006.
The modules are used in RSS syndication like in RSS syndication 2.0, three modules are used which are Ecommerce RSS 2.0 Module, Media RSS 2.0 Module and Open Search RSS 2.0 Module. These modules are created because their aim is to extend the basic XML schema. This XML schema is established for achieving the vigorous syndication of the content.
Therefore, by standardizing the format, the diversity can be focused. On the other hand, it also inhibits the modification of the core RSS specification. Moreover, the static as well as the dynamic information is given in the RSS text file. Hence, we can say that RSS syndication really provides an efficient way of updating readers.
